Faber Music is one of the leading independent British publishers of classical, contemporary, media, and printed pop and educational music. Described by The Times newspaper as ‘the new champion of quality in music publishing’ – to this day Faber Music is recognised as one of the most influential publishers of classical music; with the principles on which Faber was founded, still identifying the company’s hallmark since its conception in 1965.
Launched in 1999, Faber Music’s subsidiary Faber Music Distribution provides award-winning fulfillment and distribution services to high-profile music catalogues, priding itself on customer service and first-class delivery standards.
To support business growth, Faber Music Distribution had been holding high inventory levels at their Harlow distribution facility; with in-excess of 120,000 stock distribution units available – ranging from music books to individual sheets of music.
Initially, our team of specialist consultants conducted an initial and thorough assessment that included analyzing the operation documenting processes, material flows and future requirements; looking to identify ways to increase storage and throughput capacity; upholding the key objective – to maximise the use of Faber Music Distribution’s existing infrastructure, and ultimately, to optimize future capital investments.
Combining observations with data analysis, the consultants then developed a comprehensive action plan, which provided recommendations, and projected benefits. The consultants conducted their review during a two-day site visit in which they undertook a best practice audit, and gained an understanding of the current operational layout, processes and management practices, whilst simultaneously identifying opportunities for improvement.
