Equip Outdoor Technologies Case Study

The Supply Chain Consulting Group Design New Warehouse For Equip Outdoor Technologies

Equip Outdoor Technologies UK Ltd (Equip) specialise in the design and marketing of technical outdoor equipment and own and operate two specialist outdoor brands, Rab and Lowe Alpine. Their experienced and enthusiastic team develop innovative designs, manufactured to the highest standard and brought to market throughout the world.

Rab Carrington, one of Britain’s foremost mountaineers, established the Rab brand in 1981 to design and manufacture the world’s finest down clothing and sleeping bags. From these early days, Rab created a reputation for producing garments that are truly for the most extreme conditions in the world and for searching out the finest technical fabrics to use in their designs. Rab clothing stands among the most technical and innovative on the market, designed to meet the exacting demands of the Scottish mountains that remain the inspiration and testing ground for many of the products. The Rab brand continues to be run by climbers for climbers and all products are tested in extreme environments by Equip’s team of mountain athletes.

Lowe Alpine was born in 1967 in the Colorado work shed of climber Greg Lowe. Now an international company, Lowe Alpine retains Greg’s vision and enthusiasm. The work force includes rock climbers, alpinists, mountain bikers, skiers, trail mountain-marathon and fell-runners, cyclists and kayakers. Quality of design and functional excellence mean that all Lowe Alpine products are designed so that the activity can be enjoyed by a person without thinking or worrying about what’s being carried.

Equip enlisted the expertise of The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG), in order to provide design layout for all internal warehouse and operational areas within their new facility.

The SCCG team carried out an initial review on-site, to understand the scope of the project, and to conduct an assessment of the facility, focussing on warehouse processes including but not limited to goods received, pick/pack and despatch.

From this review, the Specialist Consultants were able to assess the facility layout, and evaluate and recommend optimised warehouse layouts and processes. Using CAD drawings and following a warehouse review, SCCG provided The Equip Management Team with recommendations for their facility concerning layout, processes, optimisation, storage, reconfiguration requirements and equipment cost, based on previous and future growth projections.

“The team at The Supply Chain Consulting Group provided us with a meticulous analysis of design layouts for the internal warehouse and operational areas within our new facility, re-designing the internal facility layout to optimise current and future capacity, which in turn increased Equip’s overall operational efficiency.”
