FlexFab UK Case Study

The Supply Chain Consulting Group Optimise Warehouse and Manage Tender for Storage Equipment

Since 1961 Flexfab has been a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of performance silicone hose and other advanced polymer products to automotive, heavy duty truck, aerospace, military and broad industrial sectors around the world.

Flexfab uses cutting edge technology to ensure that their Engineering Design services are at a level of excellence that is unsurpassed. Flexfab’s Research and Development laboratory continually looks for new and innovative ways to support their customers’ ever-changing requirements. With quality accreditation’s including: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO/TS 16949; flexfab’s main focus is to provide excellence in all aspects of their business. This focus has led them to establish long term relationships with their customers and suppliers.

By conducting this project, The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG) team supported Flexfab, to increase the efficiency of their current warehouse processes, subsequently supporting their warehouse equipment tender process for new equipment.

With World Class manufacturing facilities located in the United States, Europe, South America and China; Flexfab’s UK facility was originally predominantly a manufacturing facility although most of the product is now manufactured in their facility in China and imported into the UK site. Thus, the UK site is now predominantly a warehouse and distribution centre, with some manufacturing carried out on a small scale (still within a part of the facility).

The Flexfab management team, recognised that they required a better warehouse optimisation and tender managementoptimised layout for their current facility, and thus engaged the specialist Logistics and Warehouse Consultants at SCCG to re-design and improve the layout of their current facility and pick-face locations, by better utilising floor space and identifying the full capacity of the current facility based upon growth, with an aim to improving efficiency of product handling, picking process and workflows in the Flexfab UK facility.

The SCCG team had a number of project objectives to adhere to, including but not limited to developing the most appropriate layout and space requirements reflecting current and future requirements, producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) detailing how the revised layout should be utilised, and providing a bill of equipment and budget costs detailing all capital purchase items required for fitting and/or re-configuration of existing equipment; Whilst simultaneously taking into account the current and future requirements based upon FlexFab’s growth and sku profile.

Following completion of their warehouse optimisation project, Flex fab enlisted the services of The Supply Chain Consulting Group once more, to manage the tender process for the installation of storage equipment.

Upon completing this project, the Specialist Consultants successfully achieved all objectives, including but not limited to: the management of the warehouse equipment tender process for new equipment and reconfiguration works for the selected service providers, defining and agreeing the installation strategy and timescales with selected service providers, and the provision of an implementation plan -with strategy and transfer timescales, in conjunction with selected service providers.
