Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH) Case Study

The Supply Chain Consulting Group Review Warehouse Operations For Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH)

Southampton Cargo Handling Limited (SCH) is a leading stevedore services company, based in the Port of Southampton.  They operate a portfolio of services which includes most aspects of turn around management, RoRo, Cruise and Project work.

They have specialised facilities to handle any cargo size up to 250 tonnes; the loading and discharging of tens of thousands of cars per year; an advanced track and trace IT system enabling customers to locate their cargoes easily; warehousing with customs approval and secure open storage.

The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG) was engaged to review SCH’s warehouse operations, to include all activities; layouts; workflows; staffing; systems and processes, in order to optimise their service to clients.

The SCCG team of Specialist Supply Chain and Logistics Consultants reviewed the facility and its operation, and presented a set of recommendations to SCH enabling them to fully utilise their existing capacity by the installation of pallet racking to increase storage density. Correctly implementing the recommendations would result in an increased floor space to be used for product breakdown, order collation and pick/pack operations.

“The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG) carried out a thorough review and we have implemented the recommendations to ensure we optimise our resources and maximise our warehousing capabilities.” Director – SCH
