Dasco Case Study

The Supply Chain Consulting Group Design Optimised Distribution Centre For Dasco

Founded in 1946 in Battersea, Dunkleman & Son are suppliers of shoe care products under the Dasco brand name. In February 2015, Dunkleman & Son (Dasco) became part of the Alma FRC – a family-owned French business with a similar history in shoe care, enabling Dunkelman & Son Limited to offer an extensive range of shoe accessories.

The Dasco brand of shoe care and footwear accessories is well respected both in the UK and worldwide, with a reputation for premium quality and a modern, innovative approach to shoe care. The Dasco factory and head office are based in Northamptonshire, England. Such is Dasco’s expertise in shoe care that they offer a service tailored to their customers’ individual needs.

Following continued business success, growth and an increasing range of products, the Dasco on-site storage facilities were virtually at capacity and thus a decision was made to move to a new purpose-built facility at Magnetic Park in Desborough.

Dasco enlisted the support of The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG) to design an optimised facility in terms of internal layouts, workflows, equipment requirements and designated working areas, covering all aspects of the warehouse operations.

A review was required, to analyse the existing facility operations and better understand the current and future requirements. Following their review, the SCCG team of Supply Chain and Logistics Consultants were able to confidently determine the optimal internal facility designs, optimised layouts, workflows and operational processes, MHE and any automation/semi automation requirements for the Dasco facility.

Using the information collected, SCCG reviewed the information in order to determine how products flow through the existing facility. The Specialist Consultants then applied the growth forecasts to show the future handling requirements and flows, confirming these with Dasco, as an accurate representation to use as the planning base for subsequent designs for the new Dasco facility.

With the support of SCCG, Dasco were provided with an optimised design for their new facility, with diligently detailed internal layouts, workflows, equipment requirements and designated working areas; to cover all aspects of Dasco warehouse operations, whilst simultaneously ensuring optimisation of all processes within the new Dasco facility.
