BUILT/ is the new, innovative, very first drive-thru, ‘click-and-collect’, e-commerce, builders yard and warehouse backed by Travis Perkins PLC; supplying building materials to the trade, in and around Birmingham; adopting and promoting an omni-channel trade outlet, providing in-branch collection and same-day delivery options; ultimately stream-lining the process of ordering building supplies. Transforming the construction sector’s traditional commerce model, start-up BUILT/ has digitised the customer experience in a mobile-optimised web-store; enabling builders to benefit from the best deals when purchasing supplies. 

Determined to become recognised for their specialism within e-commerce and e-fulfilment functions, BUILT/’s click-and-collect innovation is very much focused on adopting and promoting an omni-channel trade outlet, known for providing stock visibility and fixed price products to its customers. Thus, allowing customers to conveniently order building supplies and experience fast collections and on-time delivery as standard, saving valuable time compared to the buying process within a traditional builders’ merchant operating model.  

Providing a bespoke service, like no other within the industry; BUILT/ have developed an innovation which has successfully reduced the time a customer spends in branch by 27% against a traditional merchant (based on an average collected basket). A new generation of builders, more familiar with e-commerce and a growing desire for the common retail principle of price transparency, convinced the creator of BUILT/, with the backing of Travis Perkins, that it was now ripe for digital disruption.  

The Aston site, which opened in mid-2017, serves as an omni-channel trade outlet for circa 6,000 SKUs, offering stock visibility and fixed price products to its customers, which allows stock to be ordered online and for customers to simply drive-thru to collect the pre-consolidated order from a nominated collection bay and then get back to site, providing the value-added option of same day delivery and collection; in turn enabling BUILT/’s stock accuracy and stock availability to be an industry changing 99.6%. The next depot is planned to open in 2018. 

Transforming their vision into tangible reality, BUILT/ found the support and guidance provided from the SCCG team proved to be fundamentally intrinsic to the successful development and implementation of their innovative omni-channel operation. It is this implementation of combining the operational processes, warehouse format and integrated systems, that has allowed BUILT/ to build a model that, at maturity, reduces the headcount by 30% compared to other, established, construction industry businesses.
