Bodybuilding.com is the world’s largest online sports nutrition retailer, selling a wide range of fitness supplements. The most-visited fitness site worldwide, Bodybuilding.com also provides fitness plans, daily workouts and supports a large online fitness community.
Based in the USA, Bodybuilding.com supply 10m customers worldwide via an established logistics network. Adhering to their core values, Bodybuilding.com aimed to improve customer service by gaining more control over their European supply chain.
Bodybuilding.com wanted to move their European Distribution Centre from a third-party facility in the Netherlands, to a new ‘in-house’ facility in the UK, and approached The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG) for guidance.
SCCG worked with Bodybuilding.com to develop a purpose-built e-fulfillment Distribution Centre, tailored to their specific operational requirements. The Specialist Supply Chain & Logistics Consultants optimised the facility design and layouts, supported the installation of Material Handling Equipment and managed site implementation.
The resulting facility is capable of processing 14,000 orders per day, designed to facilitate short pick distances and minimal pick times enabling it to run 24/7 with as few as 40 operators capable of picking, packing and despatching over 95,000 orders per week.
With the support of the experienced SCCG team, the project only took four months, from securing suitable vacant premises to despatching the first orders.
