There has been a large amount of discussion surrounding Intralogistics, automation and digitisation with the supply chain as a result of huge companies like Amazon introducing robots into their everyday work life.

Saving Energy:
Intelligent thermostats can be fitted which can adjust the heating/cooling systems depending on the current climate.
Solar pipes that are made from highly reflective material can channel natural light into the warehouse, lessening the need for artificial lighting.
Flying Helpers:
- Flying Helpers are often only 50 centimetres wide, making it easy for them to fit through narrow aisles.
- They can carry up to 20 kilograms in weight!
- Flying Helpers can fly for between 30 minutes to 2 hours!
- Equipped with bar code scanners, cameras, telemeters.
It is well known that drones have the ability to move goods in outside spaces, but the handling qualities of drones enable them to be operated in confined spaces as well. Drones are able to really improve the efficiency in warehousing!
Transport
Improving the communication of road transport has never been easier, now using display screens that automatically update to list trucks and their estimated time of arrival (ETA).
There has been a lot of research and progress in the creation of electric and hybrid vehicles, and this doesnt stop with cars – Electric Forklift Trucks and small hybrid vans are used everyday in warehousing!
Robotics
Amazon bought a robotics company, KIVA Systems. This is what their robots can do:
- Carry up to 317 kilograms
- Travel at 5 Miles per Hour
- Weigh only 145 kilograms
- Only 16 inches tall
The use of robotics is well established within warehousing, especially in regards to picking.
Amazon have increased their robotic workforce by 50% since 2016, now operating 45,000 robots in 20 fulfilment centres.
